During the Korean War, the US war hero, Army Cpl Luther Herschel Story, remains were returned to his family after 73 years.
Fallen Hero’s Sacrifice
Cpl Story was just 18 years old when he was killed in the Korean War on 1 September 1950. He was covering his company’s withdrawal after sustaining immense injuries. Although it took one month to recover his remains because the forensics could not ascertain his identity at that time.
As forensics has made advancements in the past few years, the remains of Cpl Story were identified and sent to his family.
Near Story’s hometown of Americus, Georgia, the long-awaited identification of Cpl Story recieved a military burial on Monday.
Cpl Story’s Heroism Remembered
The remarkable courage and heroism of Cpl Story during the Korean War are well documented. He defeated almost 100 enemies through his actions, and we are nothing but super proud of him. But unfortunately, Cpl Story was never seen alive after this battle, leaving his fate uncertain.
Highest Military Honor
The Medal of Honor was awarded to Cpl Story. It is known to be the highest military distinction in the United States. In 1951, Cpl Story’s father received a prestigious medal on his behalf. The United States Award citation praised Cpl Story for his admirable leadership quality, extraordinary heroism, and dedication to duty.
During a state visit by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, United States President Joe Biden announced Cpl Story’s remains identification. He underlined the most critical points, like the significance of Cpl Story’s sacrifice for his country.
