Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello Split After Fertility Struggles

After a seven-year marriage, popular Modern Family actor Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara have announced their divorce. They apparently made the choice because they wanted to be parents together but found it challenging to get pregnant due to their age.
To share the experience of fatherhood with Joe, Sofia, who was already a devoted mother to her son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara from a previous relationship, had to accept the fact that their biological clocks were running out.
The National Inquirer said that sources close to the couple said that Joe, 46, and Sofia, 51, both sincerely desired to have additional children but ultimately realized that their chances were slim given their ages. The couple debated using in vitro fertilization (IVF), but ultimately decided against it due to Joe’s prior experience with the procedure while dating his ex-fiancé, Nick Loeb.
The IVF procedures Sofia and Nick performed in 2013 resulted in the freezing of two embryos. But a year later, their romance came to a painful end. Sofia was further traumatized by the court battle over the embryos, even though she ultimately overcame it. She decided against trying IVF with Joe because of the emotional cost of the procedure since she did not want to experience a similar situation again.
In a joint statement on Page Six, Sofia and Joe explained their heart-breaking choice to end their nearly nine-year relationship. Despite their intense affection and concern for one another, they politely requested privacy as they moved through this new stage of their life.
Both Sofia and Joe’s hearts were affected by the difficulties they faced on the road to parenting. Although they still had a great desire to have children, the inexorable effects of time forced them to make this distressing decision. Sofia and Joe find comfort in the affection and memories they have shared throughout their relationship as supporters offer the couple encouragement during this trying time.
