After 20 years of struggle, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui met her sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist jailed in the United States for over a decade now. She met Dr. Aafia at the Federal Medical Centre, Carswell in Texas, Jamaat-e-Islami.
JI senator shared on Twitter that on Thursday another meeting got scheduled with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. Two people will be meeting her. One of them is Clive Stafford-Smith who is a prominent human rights activist and the other is JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan.
“Tomorrow I will meet Dr. Aafia in prison along with Dr Fauzia and Clive Stafford-Smith,” Khan tweeted.
In his tweet, he highlighted how dreadful life she is living for over a decade now. However, he said that this meeting created an opportunity for further discussion.
He urged that now is also the right time to raise their voices in support of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and get her released from the US jail as soon as possible.
Who is Dr. Aafia Siddiqui?
Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is a US-educated Pakistani scientist who was a resident in the United States from 1991 to July 2002. At 18 years, Aafia traveled to the United States, where her brother lived. She studied there and later she earned a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience at Brandeis University.
According to her family, she disappeared with her three children in Karachi on around 28 March 2003.
Why was Aafia Siddiqui imprisoned?
Five years later she turned up in Afghanistan, where local forces arrested the, in Ghazni which is a restive southeastern province.
In Manhattan Aafia Siddiqui was caught and blamed to kill the Americas Agent and F.B.I agent in Afghanistan and because of these charges, she was sentenced to be held in imprisoned for 86 years. But of course, she denied these accusations and pledged to not be guilty.
