For a number of its older games, including numerous Rock Band and Unreal Tournament games, Epic Games will stop providing online services and turn off servers.
What’s New?
The decision is being made as the company transitions to “solely support Epic Online Services with its unified friend’s system, audio chat features, parental controls, and parental verification features,” according to the company.
While many of these games will continue to be playable offline, some won’t be played at all.
On January 24, Epic will stop providing online services for every game on its list, including those Rock Band and Unreal Tournament games. Below is a list of all the games losing internet support.
List of the games at Epic Games that will no longer offer online services in January:
- 1000 Tiny Claws
- Dance Central 1–3
- Green Day: Rock Band
- Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess
- Rock Band 1–3
- The Beatles: Rock Band
- Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars
- Unreal Gold
- Unreal II: The Awakening
- Unreal Tournament 2003
- Unreal Tournament 2004
- Unreal Tournament 3
- Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition
What’s More?
Numerous of these games were taken off digital stores today, despite Epic’s assurance that Rock Band 4 online multiplayer and Dance Central VR online multiplayer will continue to be accessible.
The notice also states that Hatoful Boyfriend and Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star have been removed from digital marketplaces for Mac and Linux users.
Digging Into More Details
All previous purchasers of these games will still have access to and be able to play the games. Additionally, on December 30, Battle Breakers will shut down and be unreachable, and people who bought in-game items within the previous 180 days can get refunds.
Epic isn’t entirely abandoning Unreal Tournament enthusiasts, though. The corporation unveiled unreal Tournament 3 X, a free version of the third Unreal Tournament, just before it was announced that servers for previous games would be shut down.
Concluding Notes
It features no microtransactions and includes cross-play for all PC players. For those who still want to join in for a few sentimental matches, it’s a silver lining.
But, for the time being, none of the other Unreal Tournament games are receiving the same special treatment.
There is no download link for Unreal Tournament 3 X, and Epic has not yet provided a release date.
Be sure to check back for details on when we may play this game for free and, perhaps, other Unreal Tournament games.
