Human Rights Crisis in Syria since May 2023 and to be highlighted the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has released a report. This report shows that different parties involved in the conflict continue to commit serious human rights violations, and also restoring the relationship with the Syrian regime would be an epic insult to all the victims who are fighting for their rights.
Deteriorating Conditions in Syria
Abuses like unjust arrest and killing of 42 innocent people. Attacks on the places that are important for civilians and disappearances have been documented by SNHR during the month of May. Syrian regime forces were the ones who carried out these violations. In the report, it was clearly said that the areas under the Syrian regime forces have been in worse condition now. Also, the people of northwest and northeast Syria are facing alarming hardships and challenges.
Refugees Facing Torture
If the relationship with the regime is restored, there would be a potential forced return of Syrian refugees. Already 753 Syrian refugees have been sent back to Lebanon and this has resulted in torture and other abuses. According to the report, the government will be responsible for the harm caused by these forced returns.
Call for International Justice
SNHR gathered plenty of evidence that showed that deliberate attacks were made on civilians. The cause of disappearance, killing, and torture has also been done by the Russian alliance. Because of these attacks’ homes, hospitals, schools, and many other places have been destroyed. This report further said that now it’s time to get involved and take this Syrian issue to the International Criminal Court.
Addressing Weapon Use and Aid in Syria
In the report, it is mentioned that UN Security Council should take immediate action on banning the use of cluster munition and mines in Syria. Furthermore, humanitarian aid and displaced people are also discussed in this report.
