US-China Relations: China’s foreign ministry urged the United States to have complete thorough information and understanding of China and focus more on bringing the bilateral relations back on track.
China’s ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, stated that this shift in the US-China might soon occur. His remark was in response to the US President Joe Biden.
China has called for diversifying supply chains to reduce dependence on one country. Joe Biden also states this. He mentioned that the Group of Seven Nations does this whole agreement, and this is a united approach to China. Furthermore, the US President said he would have a clear conversation regarding this situation with China’s President soon.
Biden stated, “We’re not looking to decouple from China. We’re looking to de-risk and diversify our relationship with China.” Biden had a three-day summit with G7 leaders, and after this summit, he held a press conference in which he was pleased to mention that G7 leaders were more than unified in terms of countering harmful practices that hurt their coworkers.
De-risk, not decouple, was the main topic amongst the G7 leaders. They outlined a shared approach. This shows that they are willing to engage economically with China in a Saturday communique, prompting China’s embassy in Japan to urge the G7 to stop creating confrontation and division. Even after such reactions, Biden showed optimism by saying that with time we will overcome this whole situation and the tense relationship with China will be over soon. This tension started when the United States destroyed a Chinese balloon that flew over different military areas in the United States.
“We should have an open hotline,” Biden said. Last year during the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, President Biden talked with the Chinese President. Xi Jinping said that open channels of communication should be maintained.
